PDP - AYSL Player Identification - March 2nd 2020

To:       All 2006 born players

From:   Alberta Soccer Association

Re:       Alberta Youth Soccer League

Canada Soccer and Alberta Soccer are hosting a player/parent awareness, education and identification event for 2006 born players and their parents/guardians. The event is geared to those who are interested in the Nationally Licensed Youth Clubs and their subsequent inclusion in the newly formed Alberta Youth Soccer League beginning play in the Spring of 2020.

The Alberta Youth Soccer League will be a competition comprised of those clubs approved for National Youth License status.  This competition will be directed to have as many like minded, quality players competing and developing together through their player pathway.  Events with potential Canada Soccer staff in attendance will further emphasis the value of the stream for this pathway.  For information on the Alberta Youth Soccer League and a list of Clubs who have achieved the National Club Youth License, CLICK HERE

Currently there are three clubs in the Edmonton and area that have the National Youth Club License - Edmonton Scottish, Sherwood Park Phoenix and St. Albert Impact.  Other groups have applied for the National Youth Club License with no confirmation of receiving it to date.

Note:  One important consideration for the expansion of the PDP is that clubs who receive their National Youth Club License in subsequent years WILL NOT be “grandfathered” into the previous age groups.  For the 2006 age group - this excellent opportunity will only be offered from the 3 listed clubs above.
 Event details:

This event is multi-faceted and will include:

  • 7v7 games (or 8v8 depending on the field sizes and number of participants)
  • parent information/education sessions about Club Licensing, new competition and player pathways
  • the opportunity to identify players who display the qualities and traits of an excellence-level player and are interested in competing in the league, accessing the nationwide Canada Soccer Player Pathway
  • Event will be organized and ran by the Alberta Soccer Association
  • National Licensed Youth Clubs from the Edmonton area will be present to observe and are prohibited to have any contact with any player or parent from a non-licensed club during the event from until the Alberta Soccer Open Contact Period (March 16th)
  • Players contacted by a licensed club on or after March 16th must then decide to join a licensed club to participate in the Alberta Youth Soccer League
