For players born in 2006 - 2009.
About
Our Player Development Program (PDP) is a competitive program that places players into our pinnacle Performance Development Player Pathway, which highlights our competitive players in a periodized and structured environment. The PDP will support an enhanced development environment for players, coaches and referees and contribute positively to their advancement along the development pathways. Over time, this new framework will likely see a greater number of Alberta players moving to the next level of the sport (Canada Soccer Youth and Senior National teams, professional clubs, and post-secondary institutions). Our PDP teams compete in the Alberta Soccer Association AYSL league.
Program Entry
It is fundamental & vital that parents and athletes recognize the high level of commitment required to be a Phoenix PDP player. There is a selection and placement process that includes technical staff working alongside the PDP coaching staff to ensure the process is athlete centered. Also, in-season assessments and coach reports will be key criteria in the placement process. The Technical Department will be involved in all selections and placements to ensure the best interests of the player and the SPDSA are being met. Our goal is that every athlete is placed in the most appropriate environment based on a holistic four corner approach - Technical, Tactical, Physical, Psycho-Social aspects.
Coaching
Coaches in the PDP program are amongst our most certified and experienced. Most coaches will have or be in the process of obtaining their National Youth License certification, an extensive 15-month course offered by Canada Soccer. Additional technical staff round off our cooperative model which sees coaches working together in teams as a means of creating an engaging learning environment with different voices and specialty knowledge.
The Season
This outdoor season runs April through August 2023. AYSL will begin an annual intake in September 2023.
Currently the following clubs are involved in the high-performance development pathway: Calgary Foothills, Calgary Rangers, Calgary Southwest United, Calgary Villains, Calgary West, Edmonton Scottish, Sherwood Park Phoenix, and St. Albert Impact.
All Phoenix PDP teams will train a minimum of three times per week and will have access to strength and conditioning training, performance coaching, video analysis and sport science education (psychology and nutrition) as part of this program and, will have access to Athletic Therapists and Physiotherapists for injury prevention and treatment.
