STRENGTH & CONDITIONING SPECIALIST (CONTRACT POSITION)

The Sherwood Park District Soccer Association (SPDSA) is very excited to solicit applications for an in-house Strength & Conditioning Specialist. This newly created position within the Technical Department of the SPDSA will be responsible for the Development, Implementation and Maintenance of a Strength & Conditioning Program for Phoenix teams (U13 and above).  The SPDSA is committed to creating an environment that caters to individual players' developmental needs and their teams. This is an often-overlooked pillar that is essential for athlete development, injury prevention, and recovery. 

Reporting to the SPDSA Technical Director, the SPDSA Strength & Conditioning Specialist will be responsible for enhancing the physical pillar of player development by creating a program that maximizes the physical capabilities of individual athletes with scientific-based methods and training practices. The SPDSA Strength & Conditioning Specialist will be responsible for delivering sessions and coach mentorship where required throughout the season in alignment with Long Term Player Development. Each season the SPDSA Strength & Conditioning Specialist will present possible changes and improvements for Phoenix's Physical Programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop a Strength & Conditioning program to align with a periodized calendar in consultation with SPDSA Technical Staff for Phoenix teams and their players.
  2. Deliver appropriate age and stage physical training sessions as per the published Program outline for Phoenix teams.
  3. Develop a soft tissue injury prevention program and pre-training and pre-game warm-ups and cool-downs to be implemented by Phoenix Coaches.

  7. Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with members, the public, staff, and Board under all types of conditions; maintaining a positive and supportive approach.
  8. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  9. Well organized, with excellent time management skills.
  10. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task in a high-paced environment.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Preferred educational background in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology etc. or certification such as CSCS, NASM PES, or ISSA SSC
  2. Background in teaching is an asset
  3. Minimum two years experience working with a not-for-profit soccer organization preferred
  4. High-level playing experience preferred
  5. Proficiency in information systems software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and databases

Hourly Contract Rate is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
